Community Resource Spotlight

Informal supports can be found in a variety of settings: Schools, local park leagues, afterschool care, even at your grocery store. In this issues’ community resource spotlight, we highlight the local Church. A great place to meet dedicated people and programs designed to help the community. Where else can you find the best community resources?

Covina Assembly of God Church | 250 E. San Bernardino Rd. | Covina, CA 91723 | (626) 966-4488
Mission statement: “Covina Assembly of God is a place for every person to experience a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and to share His Love with others. More specifically, we are a team of multi-ethnic, multi-generational congregations in the Los Angeles area focused on reaching young families of ethnic diversity in our local communities”

A few Wraparound families in the area have had the privilege of attending this church and benefiting from several of the different activities and resources this great church has to offer. Programs such as the “Champions club” a ministry focusing specifically on children with special needs and an awesome Wednesday night service for Jr. High and High school students which happens every Wednesday from 7-8:30 make this a youth friendly church. The “Five” is a service/ministry designed to reach out to young adults and young families. This service occurs at the family life center on Saturdays at 5 pm. Celebrate Recovery is a place to find freedom from your hurts, habits, and hang-ups. Based on Matthew's teaching in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12), Celebrate Recovery leads people through a 12-step recovery process. Celebrate Recovery is held every Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Adult Development Center, Room 424. Childcare is available. Covina Assemblies of God also offers a financial peace group which helps those interested in taming spending habits, learning to budget, and wanting to  break away from debt. The Economic Relief Center is open Tuesday through Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. to distribute food and quality clothing, both new and previously owned. Food and clothing is available every 30 days. Our Food Bank is located at 436 N. First Avenue. Recipients must be residents of one of the following areas: Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Glendora, La Puente or West Covina and must provide a valid I.D. Our Clothing Rack is located at 430 N.
